Monaghan County Enterprise Fund (T/A Enterprising Monaghan) is a leading social notfor-profit enterprise, supporting startups and growing businesses across County Monaghan through affordable workspace, enterprise supports and community driven entrepreneurship initiatives. With 11 hubs supporting 65 organisations employing over 650 people, we are committed to strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem and delivering the ambitions of the Board’s Strategic Plan. Due to the planned retirement of our current CEO, the Board of Enterprising Monaghan are seeking to appoint a:
The Chief Executive Officer will drive the implementation of Enterprising Monaghan’s strategic ambitions, ensuring high quality enterprise support, strong stakeholder and community relationships and effective management of assets, resources and investment activities.
Strategic Leadership: Lead delivery of the 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, building strong relationships with funders, enterprise agencies and education partners; Manage and support the organisation’s planned equity investment activities through Board engagement.
Entrepreneurship & Business Support: Support aspiring and existing entrepreneurs through directing entrepreneurs to appropriate funding, training and support resources.
Operations & Resource Management: Lead and motivate a high performing team of staff; Manage enterprise facilities and optimise occupancy and income generation; Manage capital projects, including liaison with architects, engineers and QS professionals; Drive promotion and awareness through media and social channels.
Please note that this role is based in Monaghan town and candidates will need to be within a reasonable commutable distance. Enterprising Monaghan offers excellent terms and conditions and the renumeration package will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Candidates must have at least 5 years’ experience in a senior management position, preferably in an entrepreneurial environment. Excellent communications and influencing skills, underpinned by marketing and IT skills, are a distinct advantage.

Chief Executive Officer– Job Specification
Enterprising Monaghan is a leading social enterprise that is committed to strengthening the spirit of enterprise in County Monaghan. We support start‑ups and develop businesses in the county by providing affordable workspace, enterprise supports and community‑driven entrepreneurship initiatives. We have 11 hubs in the county and provide support to 65 organisations that employ over 650 people. We are at an important phase of our project as we seek to achieve the objectives of our 2025–2030 Strategic Plan.
The Role
In general terms, the Chief Executive Officer will lead the project to implement Enterprising Monaghan’s Strategic Plan, by ensuring high‑quality enterprise support, strong stakeholder relationships and effective management of assets, resources and investment activities.
The specific responsibilities of the role can be divided into three distinct areas:
Strategic Leadership Mission
- To achieve the objectives of the 2025–2030 Strategic Plan.
- To seek opportunities to develop the role of Enterprising Monaghan.
- To build strong relationships with key stakeholders such as national and supra-national funding bodies, the local authority and education partners.
- To manage and support the organisation’s planned equity-investment activities.
- To provide guidance, reports and recommendations to the Board.
- To represent Enterprising Monaghan as the primary contact for stakeholders and partners.
Entrepreneurship and Business Support Mission
- To support aspiring and existing entrepreneurs through one-to-one engagement.
- To direct entrepreneurs to appropriate funding, training and support resources. - To coordinate enterprise training, and workshop and networking initiatives.
- To strengthen collaboration and community in all enterprise hubs. Operations and Resource Management Mission
- To lead and motivate a high-performing team of staff.
- To manage enterprise facilities and optimise occupancy and income generation. - To oversee the areas of governance, compliance, finance, HR and reporting.
- To manage capital projects, including liaison with architects, engineers and QS professionals.
- To increase promotion and awareness through media and social channels.
- To secure funding to support sustainability and development.
Person Specification
- Relevant third‑level qualification is essential. (Note: Applications will be accepted from those with other relevant professional qualifications and who can demonstrate experience relevant to the advertised role).
- 5+ years’ senior management experience in an entrepreneurial or social enterprise environment.
- Strong background in business and/or financial planning. - Knowledge of enterprise funding supports (LEO, DSP, EI, PEACEPLUS, LEADER, etc.).
- Understanding the challenges faced by new enterprises and marginalised individuals.
- Proven ability to develop confidence and capacity in entrepreneurs. - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong IT proficiency and ability to work independently.
- Competence in planning, meeting targets, KPIs and reporting.
- Experience in leading and motivating teams.
- Organisational skills and strong time‑management capabilities.
- Full driving licence
Important: The position is based in County Monaghan and candidates will need to be within commutable distance and will be required to travel between the company’s sites and throughout Ireland.
